Legal Paraprofessionals
Legal Paraprofessionals (LPs) are a licensed class of legal practitioners and members of the State Bar of Arizona. Authorized by the Arizona Supreme Court, LPs may provide legal services within specific, limited practice areas to help expand access to justice across the state. LPs are permitted to prepare and sign legal documents, offer legal advice and opinions, appear before courts and tribunals, and negotiate legal rights and responsibilities in matters such as family law, limited criminal, administrative, juvenile, and limited jurisdiction civil cases.
LPs must meet rigorous education or experience requirements, pass both an examination and a character and fitness review, and adhere to the same ethical and professional standards as attorneys. They may practice independently or within a law firm and are bound by the same confidentiality and professionalism obligations. The Legal Paraprofessional program reflects Arizona’s ongoing commitment to improving access to legal services, particularly in underserved and rural areas.
